All images from church books and registers are available under cover of the CC BY-NC-ND 2.0 licence. It is therefore not permitted to re-use these images for commercial purposes.
Any data from church books or registers may only be used in accordance with the corresponding legal provisions of the acts on civil status and data protection in their currently valid versions of the states concerned.
Church books and registers containing data that is legally protected are not available. In Austria, baptismal registers are therefore locked for a period of 100 years. Registers for marriages and deaths are available up until the year 1938 where they exist.
All users are obliged to inform the respective archive, bishopric or diocese if they publish a printed, digital or online work that uses data or images from this website, even if it is of limited scope. If a significant number of data or images is used, printed publications require the delivery of one analogue specimen copy and where applicable an additional digital specimen copy. For digital publications, one specimen copy is required. For online publications it is sufficient to provide the link. Note: ICARUS is committed to state-of-the-art research, in particular where this is achieved with the help of the archival material provided by the ICARUS portals. This is what drives this obligation, which we see as a means to remain connected with our users.
